Lately I’m thinking…

Okay this is the last of the Spokane trip pics, and sorry for those that this is a repeat. This is Tanner and I singing “any man of mine” by shania twain, and I’m pretty sure we absolutely killed it. A lady asked Tanner for his autograph on a napkin afterwards and he signed it S. Twain and then casually lifted her up. I’ll tell you what, any man of mine better be able to support my weight with one arm while holding the microphone with the other. Let’s go boys

This is really interesting…

and by ‘interesting’ I mean ‘frustrating’ – Kansas beat kansas state three times this year and yet kansas state is in the elite 8. oh well i guess. On a side note, worst case scenario for me is kentucky wins the whole thing. best case scenario is kentucky wins the whole thing and then the ncaa takes it away for an unprecented 3rd forfeited final four by calipari

Shout out to…

Everyone going on the big sky trip, wish i was there. Say hello to Chet for me – hope he alphorn playing goes well, bring me back something french

This is really interesting…

Montana Fun Fact of the Day: “In Helena, Montana it is illegal to throw an item across a street.” I’m looking at you Jamie McCullough! She must be going nuts with the lenient laws in vegas, just throwing stuff everywhere

The Soapbox:

Have a fun and safe weekend everyone!! Reader of the Week returns next Friday after 2 weeks off. RAARRRRRRRR

Lately I’m thinking…

In my defense, and as I told Tanner that night, you’d be an idiot not to slide down that runway of a dance floor, they were pretty much begging for it

Lately I’m thinking…

Sorry for the late notice but Steph, Seeley and I are heading to Portland this weekend – Neebz, Holz, wanna hang out? On actually a RElated note (as opposed to UNrelated) Jakers I don’t think I’ll be able to go when you’re going to be there, we have prom…

Currently watching…

Thank goodness basketball is back on tonight, Go Cornell & UW

Lately I’m thinking…

Joey, sounds like Myah just doesn’t give a crap where you want her to use the bathroom. Get it? Anyways great gadget work today everybody And I’m out

The Soapbox:

Montana Fun Fact of the Day: “Montana is the only state with a triple divide allowing water to flow into the Pacific, Atlantic, and Hudson Bay. This phenomenon occurs at Triple Divide Peak in Glacier National Park.” Triple threat yo, the Indian ocean is lucky it’s that far away

Lately I’m thinking…

It was really fun rooting for Kansas in a crowded bar of people who were just rooting for an upset – hey look kansas scored for the first time in 6 minutes yipee…….

Lately I’m thinking…

Sorry for the late update, i’ve been in a meeting all afternoon, and i get to go back in 20 minutes! Luckily Wednesdays are my slow, crappy gadget days anyway, so it kind of works out

Lately I’m thinking…

“It was the lug nut….fixed it”

This is really interesting…

It’s too sunny and I’m wearing too many flip flops to be inside at meetings. Oh and currently watching: it’s weird no having a college bball game guaranteed to be on ESPN every night, i’ve been spending 2 hours per night on the comcast guide screen this week, looking forward to the games starting again tomorrow

The Soapbox:

Montana Fun Fact of the Day: “46 out of Montana’s 56 counties are considered ‘frontier counties’ with an average population of 6 or fewer people per square mile.” Put that in your census and send it

Current Status…

Let’s go with a 3.4 – I can’t remember a recent time where I felt this anxious at work. Oh ya and in case you didn’t notice, yes Kansas lost and no your rubbing it in doesn’t help

Lately I’m thinking…

30 minutes before selection sunday started I said “the one team i don’t want in Kansas’s bracket is UNI” and everyone had no idea why I would say that. I guess it’s pretty clear now, although I’d much rather not be able to say i told you so.

Shout out to…

Everyone who went to Spokane, (and to joey for not going, as much fun as that would have been i can’t imagine what sunday/monday/today would have been like if you went). Lots of peaks and valleys but that was a really fun trip. On an unrelated note, Tanner you’re completely correct, nobody I’ve ever heard sing karaoke is very good (especially hearing skeelo’s 4th rendition of wind beneath my wings) but whenever I do it I feel like I absolutey killed it and the crowd is going crazy…Something there doesn’t add up

This is really interesting…

The karaoke bar might have been the most ridiculous – here’s how the conversation went when I went up to order a drink: “Hi, I’ll have a rum and coke please”….”Oh sorry sir, we’re not serving you anymore”….”why?”…..”you dropped the microphone, danced with a chair, and switched pants with that guy at the bar”…..”oh okay, that’s fine”

The Soapbox:

Turns out all the things combined were enough to get our 10+ person group cut off. Here were my favorite quotes from that day alone: “Blade didn’t have his bag for 2 days, and once he got it back that’s what he decided to wear” -Mikey. “Wow we’ve been here a lot and never seen anyone cut off before” -2 people tanner knew at the karoke bar. “The karaoke bar was fun, we got there a little early though, the music hadn’t started yet, then we got cut off 10 minutes after it did” -Tanner on the phone. “It’s not a big deal guys, this happens all the time” -Tanner to our best friends from Texas A&M who couldn’t believe the bartenders would do that

This is really interesting…

Joey I feel your pain on the work bracket, I had to email the whole company telling them it was mandatory just to get the 5 brackets that have been turned in so far. Let’s see that means if you put in 5 dollars you should win about..$6.25. Oh ya and so far one person has gave me the $5 and one person has given me a canadian 5 dollar bill.

This is really interesting…

There are 9,223,372,036,854,780,000 different ways to fill out a bracket – for those of you who aren’t “distance from earth to pluto space scientiests” that’s over 9 quintillion….so good luck! On a side note, isn’t it crazy Pluto isn’t a planet anymore? I mean it was for a while, and now it’s not, total mind blower. Somebody really messed up

Current Status…

A Why Not Wednesday Dipsy Doozy 10 as I’m heading to Spokane tonight for the first round games. This is the best weekend of the year. The only thing that could bring me down is I felt like I was getting a cold for the first time all year, but now I’m starting to think it’s allergies as I’m just sitting here sneezing trying to breathe, and other people have complained about them the last couple days. I’m going to try getting Clariten clear and see if that helps. Maybe I’m just allergic to fun weekends, and it’s starting to set in

Lately I’m thinking…

Montana Fun Fact of the Day: ‘In Montana the word “spendy” means “expensive’ …uhhh wait a minute, pretty sure that’s just a planet earth fun fact right?

The Soapbox:

Have a fun and safe bracket weekend everyone, I’m out until next week. I have Cornell in the elite 8, let’s go you big red smart people!

Lately I’m thinking…

I don’t have a lot for today

Currently watching…

This video of people just wrecking & falling down (my favorite kind of humor) from my Russian friend Nikita. You don’t need sound, although the first minute or two it’s pretty funny to hear people scream and yell, but after that it’s just this weird techno background music and nothing else. Oh ya and it’s 7 minutes long

Currently watching…

The Bird/Magic show on HBO, it’s really good. I really like when shows like that transcend sports, if that isn’t too cliche to say. I also watched half of the Reggie Miller 30 for 30 ESPN series, but i’m only half way through it. I was going to finish it before I mentioned it on here, but eh what can ya do. It’s good so far

Lately I’m thinking…

Filling out Brackets is stressful. The last couple years I’ve got down to my final four and then I’m like “wait, i don’t think these teams are going to make the final four”, but because of the bracket I can’t think of who else to put there. I’m also not sure if I should fill out every bracket the same for every pool, or change it a bit to improve your chances of at least one bracket being good. I just hate seeing an upset and then saying “I picked that! ..in a different bracket”, and then everyone you’re with is like “suuuure” or “who cares”. I think i’m going to try and have the same bracket in all pools for that reason. Oh and once you second guess your pick and flip it, you’re totally screwed, because now instead of possibly just incorrectly picking a game, you’re twice as mad at yourself if they lose for screwing yourself over. So you think about flipping it back, but now the “flip” argument applies both ways.

Lately I’m thinking…

Well Kansas was awarded the #1 overall seed in the tourney…and then got put in the toughest region, so I guess the ranking of the #1 seeds doesn’t actually apply to anything? Besides big 10 champ ohio state (who was in the running for a #1), co-acc champ maryland, and big east tourney finalist georgetown they also drew the only 2 teams to beat them this year and UNI is the exact kind of team that gives kansas trouble. Oh well, you have to win tough games to advance, and it’s not like they’ll play all those teams, but the committee definitely didn’t do them any favors.

This is really interesting…

I was on an ESPN chat yesterday for my comment “The supposedly top 2 teams (Kansas & Kentucky) have the two toughest roads”. I should be on TV or something

This is really interesting…

So the beer pong kicked off at 3:30 at work on Friday, and Dan and I went 5-0! 3-0 to win the bracket championship and then we won 2 more for good measure against challenging teams. At one point we were listening to Britts Mix (the CATS edition no less) playing out of the speaker on my iPhone! Somebody asked “is this the kind of music you listen to??” to which I just replied “Uh no”. The best part is every cat growl somebody would say “what?” at the same time I was saying “cats!”

Current Status…

Strong to quite strong – I had a great weekend with some skiing and some alehousing (in wedgewood), the tournament is rapidly approaching and my work gave me both Friday and Monday off as comp days for working so much the last couple weeks – bonus! Joey’s gadget problems are a cause of concern though.

The Soapbox:

Montana Fun Fact of the Day: No state has as many different species of mammals as Montana  BONUS SHOUT OUT to Heather for getting accepted into 5 years of radiology programs! For some reason they don’t tell her where at until Thursday, but that’s great news

Shout out to…

The new Reader Of The Week….All the way from the big apple, Jon ‘Farnatron” Farnum! Farnum invented the international sign of awesomeness (thumbs up followed an “OK” sign) and coined the term “Montana happens”. For example, if Nebel threw a wall paper roll at Mikey but missed and put a hole in the wall, you could say “Eh, Montana happens”. Farnum is an east coast reader without an east coast bias. You can collect your drink memorial day weekend, feel free to wash your face and iron your shirt before going out to collect.

Shout out to…

And a bonus shout out to Mitchell Raun Thompson on his birthday!! Friday birthday this year, well done, hope you have a fun weekend planned. You probably want to make sure and enjoy this one considering next year you’ll be in your 30s. I remember whenever I went to get you a present for your birthday it was really hard because I usually wanted whatever I was giving you. I think i’d at least get one toy out of the deal at the store, thanks mom.

This is really interesting…

I can’t remember a longer week. I mean it’s not like it was a bad week, but the entire time it felt a day ahead. Yesterday I realized it was Thursday and not Friday on about 5 different occasions, incuding the first time when I told my boss “I can’t focus to save my life on a Friday”, “It’s Friday lets go somewhere fun for lunch” and when I left work and wanted to shout at the top of my lungs outside “It’s Friday!!”, until I realized it was still only thursday Anyways our beer pong party was supposed to start 14 minutes ago but everyone’s still working, i’m not sure if i should say something or what

This is really interesting…

We had a big new release to Whrrl this week – not really sure if that means anything to anybody reading, but there’s a link about it if anyone wants to read it. There’s obviously a lot more information out there and on the pelago blog

The Soapbox:

Have a fun and safe weekend everyone!! Montana Fun Fact of the Day: “In Montana the elk, deer and antelope populations outnumber the humans.” I can’t believe I made it as long as I did without a pocket knife. I also can’t believe we call them “the humans” in fun facts. “She must have meant ten o’ clock at night! I just figured she was a raging alcoholic!”

This is really interesting…

Well considering I was at the office from 9AM – 10PM yesterday nothing has really happened since I last updated besides me going to bed, so this again might be a stretch. “Are there such things as horse socks? Is anybody listening to me?”

Lately I’m thinking…

Nebel, please don’t talk about golf when it’s frickin windy and raining – i can see white caps on the sound right now and thought I saw snow earlier (turns out they were pedals because all the trees got tricked into it being summer last week and bloomed) Uh anyways, back to the “point”, as if i had one. Oh ya, it’s coming full circle now…speaking of golf, here’s a picture of Mariah and I golfing. Heather had a good point about the photo that pretty much hit the nail on the head, “this encompasses many of the reasons why i beat you at golf.”

Currently reading…

I got an evite from work for a beer pong contest in the office tomorrow. I was pretty excited about that, until I remembered what usually happens to me playing beer pong, and i’m not sure there’s a great intersection between that and being at work

Currently reading…

Well Chip Kelly really backed himself into a corner with this whole jeremiah masoli / lamichael james thing. One of my favorite parts about the whole thing is their incidents are completely unrelated, but they both have their court dates on the same day tomorrow. Maybe everyone can carpool? Click here for an article about kelly’s tough spot (if you even care. i’m pretty much over it and actually think he might hand down a hard punishment sometime today. or at least that’s what everyone would assume he would do)

Lately I’m thinking…

Welcome to the Wednesday edition of the gadget, the most consistently disapointing update of the week! Ya’ll come back now

This is really interesting…

Here’s an old picture of Jakers and I roping Brittney and taking her down. I don’t remember what happened next but I like to think I tied up her hands and feet really quick and then motioned to the rodeo official to stop the time, as opposed to her getting up, calling us “dummies” and hitting us, which is more likely what happened. Anyways, the moral of the story is I should have been cowboy

This is really interesting…

I’ve done a pretty good job of hiding Steph from catalogs and things, but yesterday I noticed she was browsing a lot of Internet consumer sights. She then jumped up and said, “when I get tons of money i’m going to buy tons of stuff!” I thought that was pretty profound on it’s own, until she said “I’m going to buy 8 comforters, one for every month”

Lately I’m thinking…

Since the Montana fun facts were such a hit from yesterday (0 responses, obviously) I’m going to make it a regular feature for the rest of the month, maybe even longer! So here you go, this week’s much anticipated MONTANA FUN FACT OF THE DAY: The average square mile of land contains 1.4 elk, 1.4 pronghorn antelope, and 3.3 deer.

The Soapbox:

(please note, 1.4 elk is an average, it doesn’t have anything to do with half-elks running around on 2 legs). Moving on………..”The human torch was denied a bank loan. “
