Is it too soon for me to talk about basketball?  yes.  So I’m going to talk about movies.  We saw “The Fighter” last night, which is a really good movie.  Between “crazy heart” and “the fighter” I couldn’t remember the last time I saw 2 really good movies back to back.  But then I realized I actually didn’t see them back to back, because I watched frickin the new Robin Hood on HBO in between.  I had heard it was pretty bad, but I still figured I would like it because I have the lowest bar for movies ever probably. Well it was craptastic.  I thought it was going to be the prequel or something to other robin hoods (while realizing this was completely different people doing it) but it wasn’t at all.  It was the same people & names, but with a completely different story.  How does that even make sense?  I was like “uhhhh pretty sure you didn’t meet little john on the crusades”.  And instead of fighting against the Sheriff of Nottingham you’re fighting against some bald guy and the french army??  Anyway, it was a sharp contrast to Prince of Thieves (one of the best movies of all time, obviously…and this one, one of the worst movies I’ve seen – it actually just got worse and worse up until the end).

This article about a Dish Network store in Montana that is offering a free gun with a dish network contract.  That’s seriously probably the best deal of all time (much better than the $50 gift card you can get if you for some unexplained, unknown reason don’t want the gun…)

Shout out to…

Miller and Bonar for having us over to the engagement party on Saturday.  We played the newlywed game, and thankfully everyone is still together afterward.  2 years ago Fisher and I were statistically the best friends in Seattle according the game.  Well Steph and I are statistically the 2nd best engaged couple in Seattle apparently.  If we actually had wedding colors or if she by chance would have went to prom with a guy named “Mick” we could have won I suppose…

Shout out to…

Annie and Alex who came to wedgwood on Saturday night for a little taste of karaoke!  When I got there I told them there were literally 4 people there.  By the time they showed up though there were like 50 parents who came over for a karaoke party after a school fundraiser dressed up in 80s gear.  It was honestly out of control.  Needless to say the meatloaf song we sang was right up their alley.  Not sure I can say the same about my ‘any man of mine’ song that I also accidentally turned off half way through when I stepped on the surge protector.

This is really interesting…

Seeley (ol lazer eyes) and I are best friends.

Currently Reading…

Remember months ago when I last updated and talked about the Fab Five show on ESPN?  Well a few days after that (still months ago…) Grand Hill responded with an article in the new york times – good stuff.

This is really interesting…

Steph went to starbucks yesterday, ordered her drink, paid, then….left.  By the time she realized she didn’t wait for her drink she was apparently too far away to go back.  Good job, you’re great for business.

This is really interesting…

We moved spots at work yesterday.  I went from sharing an office to the smallest space Amazon has to offer.  Seeley is currently sitting in the hallway because there isn’t enough room for both of us.  The movers probably thought I was saying “booooo” but I was actually saying “mooooovers”.  No actually i was booing

lately I’m thinking…

A few things:  It would seem kansas has about as good of a road to the final four as you could ask for, but you need to keep in mind kansas only loses in the tournament to mid majors, and quite often at that.  So really they got totally screwed!  Also, karaoke tonight fools!!!!!!!!!  Been a while since Shania talked about what she looks for in a man

The soapbox…

Denver was a blast.  This tournament has been fun to watch.  My bracket is crap.  Did you know phones used to dial numbers based on the sound the key made, not by determining what button was pushed?  Craziness I know.  So basically you used to be able to dial a number by just playing the corresponding sounds on a boombox or something, that’s why they were called “touch-tone” phones.  Seems like a really hard way to do it to me.  beep bop boop beep!

Lot of college basketball on the mind but don’t have a lot of time to “jot it all down” here.  This is a crazy stat though:  Kansas has won the Big 12 conference 7 years in a row.  So Bill Self has won the conference every year except for his first year there.  They’ve also won 5 out the last 6 conference tournament championships.  Pretty impressive

This is really interesting…

We narrowed our wedding slide-show pictures down to 3,000 on Sunday

Currently Watching…

Wow in 2 days they had a 30 for 30 on the Fab Five (ESPN) and then a documentary on UNLV (HBO).  It was quite the basketball history lesson for Steph (which I’m sure she enjoyed).  I got to go to a UNLV game the year they won the championship.  I was telling Steph we sat 3rd row directly behind MC Hammer at the Layola game at the exact moment before they showed a clip of the players with ol’ MC after that game.  Another thing I enjoyed was in the Michigan one everyone talked about how they were the first players with “swagger” (in 1992)…and then I watched the UNLV show where they were the first players with “swagger” (1990)

This is really interesting…

I never really understood how engines work, but here is a “cool” animation thing that helps demonstrate the different kinds of engines.  On a side note, I still don’t know how engines work

Heading to Denver for the games Thursday night.  The sunshine state.

I honestly don’t have any pictures to put up.  I swear this lama almost bit me though.  On a side note, this video is great, thanks Zach! and to answer your next question, yes I feel like getting a saxophone again.

Lately I’m thinking…

You know how they always say the term “hero” is thrown around too much in sports, and real heroes are Fireman, soldiers, etc.?  Well the number to call if you see somebody in the carpool lane that shouldn’t be is 1-877-764-HERO…

This is really interesting…

Ahhh Montana, I love you.  Hanson is headlining a “blues festival” in Billings.  Not sure what else to say.  Makes me wish Toto would headline a hip hop festival in Seattle.  On a side note, Miller and I have been crushing some mmm bop at karaoke the last month or so

This is really interesting…

As we were leaving Steph’s parents house on Sunday we saw a bald eagle outside in a tree.  They said it was the first time they had seen one out there – it was awesome.  Two days later Steph and I saw one flying as we drove into downtown Seattle…

The soapbox…

Might have been the busiest work week I’ve ever had, sorry about the no-updates.  Hope everyone enjoys conference tourney weekend and selection Sunday.  Looking forward to the bball tourney, one of my favorite times of the year.  “hey play that george michael song real quick”.  Have a fun and safe weekend everyone!!  Bonus Shout out to Mitch Thompson who turns 30 tomorrow.  THIRTY!  I’m going to make sure to call him before 9:00 PM so I can try to catch him still awake.

Shout out to…

The special Thursday edition Reader of the Week…Alex Ryan!  Alex was a member of the infamous Sunday Funday, and has recently been racking up the points by recommending Crazy Heart, getting Steph hooked on some field roast or something, and hosting dance parties.  -1 point for the knee issue though, sorry.  Congrats, and your prize is one touchdown at bleachers, and you get to pick the flavor, what a deal!  Fun Fact:  Alex is the only person that has fallen down our stairs.

Shout out to…

Miss McRae and Tanner for donating to our fund-raising team!  Unfortunately the event had to be canceled due to too much rain basically flooding the course (who would have thought it would rain so much this time of year…).  We’re still going to Portland this weekend and the event has been rescheduled for August, and all of your donations are still good for that event, so thanks again!

Currently Watching…

Wire Wednesday’s fools!  Ya I know, I’m a little late to The Wire, but we started last night with Bonar and Miller and made it through 2 episodes…not sure how long that means it’s going to take us to finish all the seasons…but whatever.  I still haven’t decided if I want to be a cop or a bad guy, I just know I want to get in the game.  On a side note, picturing Pat get really into The Wire is even easier than before.

Shout out to…

Al “Papa” McRae on his birthday!!  Hard to think of someone I’d want to be more like than him.  Well except maybe in basketball, whenever we would play and I would go up for a jump shot he would either poke me in the stomach or step on my foot before I jumped.  It’s hard to get that call in a game with no referees.

The soapbox…

I’ll be in Portland tomorrow so have a fun and safe weekend everyone!!

Not sure why I took this photo, or why I’m posting it, but here you go.  We saw Hall Pass last weekend – I’d have to put it at the lower end of funny movies.  fun night though.  guy stuff

This is really interesting…

Ripped another hole in my jeans doing a knee slide Saturday.  I only slid like 2 feet too, what a rip off.  Anyway I’m getting down to dangerously low jean levels.  My 3rd choice is now the pair I got from Dronen in Spokane when we had to switch at the bar after a similar knee slide incident.

This is really interesting…

If Seeley sees a champagne bottle come out, she instantly runs upstairs or downstairs because she doesn’t like the noise when it opens.  It’s amazing how she knows though – anytime I grab a wine bottle it’s fine, but a champagne bottle and she’s out of there.  The other day Steph brought home some pink lemonade, and when I went to open it Seeley took off.  I was like “what on earth is she doing?”.  Then as it opened it popped and scared the crap out of me – I had no idea it was “sparkling” pink lemonade.

Currently Watching…

Crazy Heart.  How on earth did I have no idea this was a movie, let alone a country movie with Jeff Bridges??  Mind boggling.  Anyway, it was a super good movie, my favorite I’ve seen in a while.

Thank you to Farnum, Mikey, Holzer, The Holzers (parents), and Cyndi for donating to our Pineapple Classic team to support the Luekemia & Lymphoma Society!!  We are getting really close to our overall team goal so if you would like to donate please do, thanks!  http://or.pineapple.llsevent.org/blade

Shout out to…

The new Reader of the Week….Alex Umbdenstock!  Here is a picture of Alex in Snoqualmie National Forest logging…Alex is a giant.  Alex is married to Lauren (also Umbdenstock, obviously) and they are expecting their first child this summer!  Congrats Alex, I owe you tall can of beer

This is really interesting…

Schools in Seattle had a snow day on Wednesday.  Oh and we got 0 inches of snow on Wednesday – nothing.  Schools were just canceled as a precaution.  On a side note, I never had a snow day my entire school “career” in MT, except for maybe 1 day in kindergarten I think because they couldn’t open the school doors or something.  My favorite part about Wednesday was seeing two snow plows cruise past our house…on cement.  It wasn’t even raining.

Currently Watching…

Top Shot – people basically just shoot a bunch of stuff.  It’s great

This is really interesting…

I could barely talk at work this morning because i sang (i.e. yelled) so many songs at karaoke last night.  We had some Amazon employees from India that were in town that came – we had them sing “coming to America” by Neil Diamond, which they had never heard before.  A little rocky until everyone was just able to yell “TODAY!”

The soapbox…

Have a fun and safe weekend everyone!!  The Snow Joke is this weekend in Seeley Lake (which we aren’t running in this year) – last time I checked the temp there today it was -11 degrees.  Also a reminder to please donate to our team to help fight cancer – thank you!!  http://or.pineapple.llsevent.org/blade

Had a great day snowshoeing on Saturday.  On a side note, The bus stop closest to my house blew over in a huge wind storm last week, so now the bus just doesn’t stop there.  Uhh okay, I hope someone fixes that sign soon.

This is really interesting…

I am participating in the Pineapple Classic 5K event the weekend after this one.  I’m on a team with Steph, Ryan, and Brett and some of our other friends are participating and forming teams as well to raise money for leukemia and lymphoma.  If anyone wants to donate to my team I would REALLY appreciate it.  Click the link to donate and learn more information

Lately I’m thinking…

People eat often, I mean 2-3 meals a day is a lot.  The reason I thought about this is I feel like all I ever do is try to figure out/decide what to eat.  Every night we have to figure out what to eat, it’s like hey, didn’t we just have to do this yesterday!  It’s really a full time job with no end in sight.  Tonight should be easy though as apparently it’s National Margarita day!  And it’s a Tuesday!  Meaning Taco Wednesday is coming a day early resulting in a somewhat catchier name in “Taco Tuesday”.

Currently Watching…

Lots of shows, including the Bachelor, obviously.  Yesterday Steph got a text from her Mom asking what Chantell’s or Shontell’s parents did and steph meant to reply “they own a car dealership” but instead replied “they own a cat dealership”.  Okay that’s great, but honestly steph was laughing so hard I had to stop the show.  She couldn’t even get the words out to explain it for about 5 minutes while I just sat there.

The soapbox…

Rushing the court/field has got completely out of control.  It seems like anytime anyone beats a team they weren’t favored against they rush the court.  I don’t even know where to begin with examples there are so many.  I bet someone rushes the court 5 times per week.  It’s actually got to the point where it’s refreshing to see an underdog/rival win a big game at home and not rush the court.  The latest one to just push this thing over the top for me is when Cal rushed the court after beating then 14-12 non-ranked UCLA.  FOURTHEEN AND TWELVE!  They aren’t even your in-state rival, they aren’t ranked, aren’t leading the conference and can’t score more than 18 points a game.  Even if any of those were true I see no reason to rush the court.  I’m about to lose it.  Have a good day.

(some of you already know this, but it sets up my next point)  Besides the obvious pepperoni or sausage on pizza, my next favorite is probably hawaiin.  I pick off all the pineapples though, because I don’t really like chewing on them as part of my pizza.  I mean I like pineapple, i don’t even mind cooked pineapple, I just don’t like them as part of my pizza very much.  So people have suggested I just save myself the trouble and order a canadian bacon only pizza…but those aren’t very good.  I like the flavor the pineapple leaves behind without actually having to eat them.  At stellar pizza, my last 10 orders have been hawaiin pizza, and then I remove the pineapple.  Anyway, moving forward, I’ve always been very anti-green pepper, much more so than hawaiin.  But at the village inn buffet they sometimes put out sausage green pepper pizza and if I can’t wait for more to come out I’ll grab some those and try to pick off the peppers I can (which is hard because they’re small and cut up, but whatever).  Anyway I actually kind of liked the taste and I realized my next big pizza “breakthrough” might be ordering a pizza with green peppers and then taking them off, leaving the flavor behind just like pineapple.  I had actually been considering this for 2 months as my next step

This is really interesting…

Then on Friday after I finally got off work I met Steph at the new Serious Pie location in south lake union.  I had never eaten there before so was excited to try it, even though the toppings they use are pretty non-traditional (like you can’t get pepperoni, pffffff idiots).  The only one that seemed remotely normal was a green pepper and sausage pizza.  This was my big chance!  Only I didn’t even want to be the guy picking off the green peppers, so I just ate it.  I was basically high fiving myself the whole time.  Anyways the pizza was frickin delicious (not giving all the credit to the green peppers, it was mostly the sausage and crust, but they were a part of it so get their due).  I want to eat there everyday now, and it might have moved into my top 3 pizza places in Seattle.  At least top 5.

This is really interesting…

Steph and I did a little bit of registry activity on Sunday.  Basically, playing with the scanner gun is fun.  Picking a silverware set out of 20 identical but somehow different sets is not as fun

Currently Watching…

The Bachelor – I’m not sure why, but I love this season, it’s fantastic.  It was great because last night one of the trailors for what was coming up after commercial had Brad saying “This date is spriraling out of control” and then at the exact same time I said “Yeah!” as Steph said “It’s about time”.  Haha fantastic

Shout out to…The new Reader of the Week…..Cyndi Klitz!!  Cyndi is an avid blog reader which may or may not be because I set it to their homepage.  I thought that was a good thing until she started letting me hear it about not always updating, but what can you do.  Cyndi enjoys spending time with her kids, her grandkid (Seeley), and riding the tandem bike all over the streets of Seattle.  She’s also pretty darn good at the card game “Tourettes”.  I owe you one glass of Meridian Chardonnay next time I see you.

This is really interesting….It’s 6:45 on a Friday night and I’m still at work basically waiting for an email to come in so I can finish my stuff up.  I’m also drinking a warm bud light.  Not the most ideal situation

This is really interesting…Well SPC was a smashing success last night, fun time.  Afterward we decided to go across the street and get some “custard”.  Steph saw that Andes mints were an option for extras, so she ordered ice cream with an andes mint on top.  The lady informed her they were blended up and mixed in with the ice cream, but steph pointed and said she just wanted one on top like that one.  The lady then had to explain that they came crushed up, and the display mint was multiple years old.  So steph just decided to skip on the andes mints altogether and get sprinkles….

This is really interesting…Karaoke was just absolutely blowing up last night, I’ve never seen it so packed in there.  2 husky coaches were there as well, although I couldn’t convince them to sing the thong song.  On a side note, I made 0 dollars.

The soapbox…Have a fun and safe weekend everyone!!!   Happy Birthday Britt!!
