Lately I’m thinking…

Happy Thursday International Day of Awesomeness (TIDOA)!  I hope everyone has a great day.  Bonus Shout out to Maddie and Shana who had a birthday yesterday!

This is really interesting…

Yesterday Steph told me “you should have seen Seeley fetch yesterday , you would have been so proud”.  There are these 2 labs that she sometimes plays with across the street who have tons of energy and just run around really fast.  Apparently they were throwing the ball and Seeley would outrace them and snag it off the bounce.  “it was one of those cases where you have no idea how the dog comes up with the ball, but they do”.  So I was like that’s, awesome, and she would bring it back and everything?  “oh no, she would zig-zag all over the field with both dogs and me chasing after her and it took us 10 minutes to get the ball back every time”.   Yep, really proud

Currently watching…

Wednesday is a great night of TV as well (Modern Fam, Cougar Town (seriously it’s funny, especially the first season, although it wasn’t on last night) & top Chef).  But like Monday when you add a good basketball game to it, it gets even better.  Duke-unc was a great game, fun to watch.  Glad the good guys won

This is really interesting…

Quite the lineup tonight:  Seattle Pizza Club (#SPC for you young kids checkin yo tweets) 6:30 at Piecoras followed by karaoke at the wedgwood Ale House at 9:00.  BAM

The soapbox…

Season tickets for the huskies next year are the same price as they were last year, which is awesome!  Unfortunately they include one less game because the apple cup will be at Qwest while they renovate Husky Stadium.  That does not seem like as good of deal, especially because tickets aren’t nearly as cheap there, but whatever, hopefully future Blade will enjoy it and be able to make it to more than 2 games next year

Lately I’m thinking…

Hello everyone!  Enjoy my two posts last week that I promised and never delivered?  Didn’t think so. I should go into politics.  Anyway here’s the deal, Reader of the Week can now happen any day of the week.  Awesome.  Also wanted to give some late birthday shout outs to Seeley who turned 7 (21 run) and Skeelo who turned 25 or something.

Currently Watching…

Big Monday.  In fact it’s so big, I can’t watch all of it!  Monday night they show Big 12 and Big East games on ESPN, so there are a lot of Kansas games on that night of the week.  However Monday also happens to show ‘How I met your mother’ and ‘The Bachelor’ and those both start at 8:00 PM!!  Do you realize what the means?  Yep, you have to be on one of those channels in order to record them because it can’t handle recording 2 shows while you watch another one (because that means it’s recording the other one as well in case you want to rewind).  Luckily espn360 was invented (which is awesome by the way) so at 8:00 I can flip to another channel, hit pause, and finish the basketball game online.  Then the other two shows can be watched with zero commercial interruption.  Of course last night the online game wasn’t necessary because by 8:00 Kansas had already pounded rival missouri out of the building.  On a side note, at this point in the Bachelor season this is the least mad I’ve been about watching it in probably 3 years.

Currently Watching…

The Fear Net Channel.  Does this happen to anyone else?  The TV is usually set to ESPN, and whenever I accidentally hit a button on the remote it either happens to be “On Demand” or “Channel Down” which takes me to a channel called “Fear Net” or something (that I don’t have so it’s just a subscription dialog).  Either way, those are the worst 2 things to land on because the cable box basically explodes trying to display this information in less than 10 seconds.  Going to On demand when you don’t want to is the worst, but I would say Fear Net comes in 2nd.  It usually registers my “last channel” button after 493 clicks.

Shout out to…

The Jordy’s (bad guys) who beat the Millers (good guys) in the Bonopio.com I bowl.  We jumped out to a 14 point lead but couldn’t hold it together after that.  Here is the AP story.  On a side note, the next day I felt like I participated in a UFC fight, not a no-contact flag football game.

The soapbox…

“What happened.  Did you fall in some mud or something?”

Lately I’m thinking…

Wow, this last week has been my worst blog performance yet (and I’m hearing it from angry readers)  I was going to offer some free coupon or something but I don’t really have any, so instead I’m going with some themed editions (yay! what? who cares? alright!).  Today’s theme is football.  I hope to also have a basketball one this week along with a reader of the week (so yes, i’m boldly saying there are at least 2 more updates this week).  Anyways sorry for the lack of updates and sorry today’s probably won’t be funny…unlike every single other one right!?  To get us started her is yet another set of alternate jersey’s (and scout team players) of the oregon ducks.  These jersey’s are so alternative that they actually incorporate their team colors!

This is really interesting…

This year we’re having our very first Bonopio sanctioned flag football game, taking place this Saturday.  It’s the “Miller’s” versus the “Jordy’s” for the title.  We already had the draft and the combine, and get this:  out of the 12 people that participated I had the 2nd fastest 40 time, highest vertical, and not the last bench reps!  You can check out the players and combine results.  Unfortunately after the combine I realized I’m still afraid of the ball and a huge liability on the field.  As Ahern put it, I’m still “really raw”.  This event is sponsored by Bladerade, and we hope to see a lot of people out tailgating and enjoying the game.  It’s at Lower Genesee field this Saturday with kickoff at 11:30.  Sports

This is really interesting…

Tomorrow is national signing day for college football recruiting.  There will of course be some surprises (some good, some bad) and some shuffling in rankings, but as of right now UW is ranked in the top 12-22 classes (based on scout, rivals, and espn) and has the parade national player of the year in Kasen Williams.  I will once again be attending the recruiting event with Miller tomorrow and I’m basically just hoping Nick Holt doesn’t yell at me.

This is really interesting…

Bobcat Stadium (CATS!!) is undergoing renovation right now to add in more seats and close in the bowl.  I hope they still have that super delicous hot chocolate for 75 cents.  On a side note, bonus shout out to Moopie on his Birthday!!

The soapbox:

The NFL draft is a long ways away, but there’s obviously going to be a lot of talk about Locker.  The #1 thing I hear said is “He blew it by staying a year and would have made more money if he came out last year”.  The thing is Locker never came back to make more money.  There’s only one way to go from the “projected” #1 pick and it’s not up.  He came back because he loved college and because he wanted to lead UW to it’s first bowl game in 8 years, which he did.  The argument should really stop right there, but I’ll just keep going a little bit just for fun.  The same people that predicted he would go #1 overall are also predicting him all over the board, some into the 2nd round this year.  Kiper said it was “etched in stone” locker would be the #1 pick this year.  The point is they’re just predictions.  Nobody really knows if a player is going to slide or climb on draft day.  Locker could still be a top 15 pick this year or a 4th rounder, who knows.  He could have slid out of the top 15 last year.  And what if he did go #1 last year?  If people are saying he’s not ready right now, then he definitely wasn’t ready last year.  Is it better to be a Ryan Leaf and go in the top 2 for a ton of money, or be an Aaron Rodgers and go a little later but have a successful career?  And if money is the only issue, Rodgers will make way more money on his second contract than a #1 overall bust does on his first.  Wow, sorry.  And I’m not saying Locker is the next Rodgers, I guess my overall point is it seems Locker genuinely doesn’t regret coming back to school because he didn’t come back to improve his draft stock or make more money, he came back for another season of college football.  And regardless of where he goes in the draft, he’s a better football player this year than he was last year who still has the potential to get a lot better.  He’s basically had 2 years in a pro-style system with proper coaching.  Sark said most quarterback prospects these days have more than that in high school, working with private coaches and camps.

Shout out to…

The Cahill’s who had us over for homemade pizza last night.  I even got an apron to match my beer – bonus!  They are basically the kings of homemade pizza – they have all the equipment you could ever need and the experience to pull it off.  While cooking my pizza all I could think about was quitting my job and applying for a position at Mackenzie River.

This list of sarcastic reviews for some Amazon products Mitch sent me.  One thing they left out however is the “badonkadonk tank“, which I’m sure was very popular before it became unavailable.

Physical humor, my favorite kind of humor.  Every time someone tells me a story of wrecking on their bike I just think back to the glory days at MSU when people would try to ride their bike through campus on top of a bunch of snow and ice and then BAM!  On a side note, here’s a bonus clip from Wayne’s World

Shout out to…

(a little late) Tanner Keil on his birthday last Sunday!  Rest assured I won’t forget about it and will celebrate it with you the next time I see you…so get excited.  CATS!

The soapbox…

Our neighbors had a “yard sale” the last couple days, only everything is free so I’m really not sure while they’re bothering.  They even put out a giant mirror, free for the taking.  Unfortunately during the night it fell over and shattered into a 100 pieces…

Shout Out to…

Matt Demarais on his Birthday!!  This is a picture of Matt high up in the Himalayas, exploring…oh wait nevermind, it’s a picture of him playing in the snow at Bobcat stadium with some 6 year olds, my bad.  Hope you have a good one papa bear

This is really interesting…

Well Matt, Theresa and I hosted our first off-bar karaoke gig on Friday for a corporate party at the Museum of Flight.  It was…hilarious.  Not only did we host the karaoke for a bunch of working professionals, but we also awarded raffle prizes and drink tickets to different employees.  I think I only said 1 name right, not including “jessica bubly” (i said the boo version) and “hush” (turns out it was Hugh).  During the time between setup and actual singing it was really quiet in the room with people just milling around talking, so I put Britt’s Mix on and got the party started.  We ended up only having to sing one song, during which Matt and I basically just apologized the whole time for “not actually being good at singing”.  “Any Man of Mine” is a tough one

Lately I’m thinking…

Okay this is a few days late, but honestly I was too mad to talk about it earlier anyway…what on earth is up with adding a new star sign thing?  Are you kidding me?  Steph told me they “invented” a new one and I thought she was crazy.  I mean what are they going to do, send out a memo to every person on earth and tell them there’s a new sign?  Then I was even more blown away when I realized this affected a bunch of people besides just the one who got the new sign.  What, I’m not a capricorn anymore??  Are my personality traits different now?  Were there 10 million divorces this weekend because people are all of sudden no longer compatible?  I never paid attention to my star sign before, but now I’m flat out boycotting it.  If anyone asks me what my sign is, I’m going to say I turned it down and don’t have one.

okay I’m fully on board with the Bachelor this season, but comcast keeps totally jacking up the channel making it unwatchable.

Shout out to…

Yogi!  We had an epic SPC meeting last Sunday that was also our gift exchange.  well she hand crafted this one of a kind pizza pillow for me! (I had the hat from before, came in handy, thanks Britt!)  Pretty frickin impressive.  We had a $10 limit on gifts, which she said she was way under on fabric, I’m just glad there wasn’t a labor fee involved.  It’s seriously fantastic.  Oh and Steph got a pizza (vegetarian) iPhone cover from Jay that she’s honestly used everyday so far.  My phone is starting to feel incredibly vulnerable.

Currently Watching…

well this is what happens when I don’t get update my blog for 2 days, I get behind, but…did everyone see the Seahawk win and Lynch’s touchdown run on Sunday!!?  I heard someone the next day it “was like a tecmo bowl run”.  A couple days later I watched this from Bonar – terrific.

Lately I’m Thinking…

I’m refraining from saying too much about the oregon game, but what it boils down to is it wasn’t a great game for the most part except for the 4th quarter which was fantastic, and either team could have won that game.  What isn’t very cool is that college football is over.  What is cool is college basketball conference play has started.  I watched the Kansas-michigan game the other day and was reminded about how stressed out I get watching games though

This is really interesting…

On Sunday Steph asked me to look into a DJ for the wedding.  Instead Cam and I went in on this website.  Stay tuned for updates!!

The soapbox…

I’m going to try a joke on here.  It completely bombed last time I used it, but I think part of the reason why is because Steph “didn’t get it”.  Anyways…Q:  What’s long, brown, and sticky.  …….. A:  A stick!

Blade, why did you pick this one?

Shout out to…

The new Reader of the Week…Jay Blazey!  Blazey was recently married to Yogi and has a dog named Winston, but more importantly is the Co-Founder, COO and Director of Research and Development of the Seattle Pizza Club.  Blazey has also been known to show up at karaoke night, and his new hobby is attending lunches at the all you can eat meat place.  Congrats Blazey, I owe you a blue moon.  On a side note, SPC is meeting Sunday night at Northlake Pizza Tavern.  If you would like to go, contact an officer and let’s do it!

This article by Sports Illustrated about how the real booster story of the national championship game is Phil Knight, not Newton.  Some crazy stuff.  Miami is building a brand new academic support building at 13.6 million dollars. Oregon just built one for 41.7 million!

Just finished my first book on the Kindle, “the girl that…” the fire one (number 2).  I don’t usually read fiction books so I’ve just been telling myself it’s a real story, which is crazy!  Apparently Steve Klitz finished his first book the day he bought it.  He told me “blasted” through it.  Oh ya and Steph has quietly updated her blog twice in the last couple weeks, as opposed to once in the 8 previous years.

Currently Watching…

I’ve said since last season I wasn’t going to watch the bachelor.  But we recorded the first episode last week.  When we went to watch it the picture is all scrambled and fragmented which is not comcastic.  But maybe it was meant to be like that – maybe it was giving me a 2nd job to hold on to my promise.  Did anyone see it?  Is it horrible?  Please just tell me to accept my 2nd chance and not watch any of this season.  Unless it’s really good….

The soapbox…

Have a fun and safe weekend everyone!! Playoff football tomorrow

you forgot your pillow

Shout out to…

Everyone for a wonderful Birthday and New years!!  I had a surprise birthday party with Sam on New Years Eve at Molly’s house, that more than anything just confirmed how oblivious I am to anything. I think between Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Christmas with Steph, Birthday with my family and my birthday in Seattle I opened presents like 6 our 7 days or something, it was terrific.  Bonus shout out to the Nebels, Ryan and Jen for coming up to Seattle.  Ryan you left your pillow in the loft…

This is really interesting…

Yesterday was probably the busiest work day I’ve ever had, seriously out of control.  This whole week has been incredibly busy.  I’d like to thank everyone for their “feedback” that I should update thing more often though, (I’m going to need a customer service department if I don’t step it up).  I think one of my new years resolutions will be to strive for a greater work/blog balance.  I also want to try to go to happy hour more (to save money) but I tried that last year and it didn’t work.  Steph said my resolution should be to use my phone less at home, but hopefully I annoyed her enough yesterday that she’ll want me to start using it again.

This is really interesting…

Speaking of the phone, goodbye Angry Birds, hello Cut the Rope!!  I recently got it and decided I liked it a lot more than Angry Birds (which is scary) but that might just be because I’m burnt out on launching millions of birds into blocks.

This is really interesting…

Seattle basically had the best sports weekend ever last week since I’ve moved here probably.  UW beat nebraska in the holiday bowl (it actually wasn’t even as close as the score indicated), they got a big in-state recruit who oregon was after, UW basketball swept the LA schools, and the 2-30 Seahawks won and secured a home playoff game this weekend!!  On a side note, does anyone have an extra ticket to that game?  I think i want to go…

Shout out to…

All my friends and family for a fantastic Christmas (see above).  I had a wonderful time in MT and it was great to see everyone.  The only thing that wasn’t great is when Village Inn decided to take an extra day off besides the standard Christmas Eve & Christmas.

Lately I’m thinking…

Okay get ready, you may have heard this before but…sorry for the lack of updates.  I promise to do better next year?  Okay phew, I think that worked.  I never really update on ‘vacation days’, and yesterday I had went to bed at 2:00 Am to get up at 4:00 AM and get on a flight headed straight for work…so that obviously was a good idea, but I’ve got a pretty good feeling about this going forward.

Shout out to…

Bonus shout outs:  Holzer on his 29th birthday.  Britt & Sam on getting engaged.  Gunnar and Kristen on getting engaged.  Ryan, Jen, Nebel & Shana for coming to Seattle for new years!

Shout out to…

The new Reader of last Week…Scott Hitchcock!!  Scott is an officer in the Seattle Pizza Club (seen here awarding 3rd place in the frozen pizza cook-off).  He’s a gonzaga alum who also shows his fair share of support for the Bobcats, including attending the Cat-griz satellite party this year and cheering on the good guys victory.  On January 31st he will be on a massive scavenger hunt trying to win one free dinner at Canlis per year for a friend of his choice, as he was one of the winners who found the hidden 1950s menu.  Congrats again, and don’t forget I owe you a tall boy

This is really interesting…

Blazey, Miller, Moop and I went to the all you can eat meat buffet for lunch today for 2 hours.  I’m currently incredibly full, don’t feel well, and for some reason feel really paranoid.  I’m also hot.

Shout out to…

Bonar on his bday and everyone who came out to celebrate with some Karaoke on Saturday night!  I seriously had an awesome time.  I knew my Kelly Clarkson shirt would come in handy sometime in the last 6 years.
